The ProjNet Suite: design, bid, build.

What is ProjNet?

The PROJect extraNET (ProjNet) is a web service that allows the secure exchange of design and construction information among authorized business partners in the context of specific business processes. ProjNet hosts a number of specific applications. The most widely used of these applications are the Design Review and Checking System, (DrChecks); ProjNet-FILER, a file exchange program; and ProjNet-BID, a bidder inquiry application. Other applications include ProjNet-RFI, supporting requests for information; the ProjNet-Submittal Register; DQLL, design quality lessons learned; ProjNet-Plan Room, supporting monitored plan and specification distribution; ProjNet-CMS, the Criteria Management System; ProjNet-CCR, managing Criteria Change Requests; ProjNet-SCP, Standards and Criteria Program; and portals for information distribution.

Benefits

Prior to ProjNet there was no secure method for the exchange of Sensitive But Unclassified information over the internet. Email attachments and vendor FTP servers do not provide sufficient security for DoD and OPM regulations. Commercial project management services did or could not control the access to servers and databases.

Use of ProjNet suite of applications has been demonstrated to provide a number of tangible project benefits. DrChecks, for example, has been shown to (1) reduce meeting time and cost, (2) eliminate collating of comments submitted in a variety of formats, (3) promote participation by facility managers and owners, (4) and speed reviews. Design Architect/Engineer firms interviewed have stated that the use of the program saves them time and effort, and results in a higher quality design.
